Quality:
No struggle whatsoever to comment positively on the build quality of this little box. Metal construction, robust, good finish and the unit has a good feel when you use it. It feels as if it will last forever and will certainly stay with you and your playing for enough time to warrant the purchase. Look at the original WH-1 it has lasted players for more than a decade!
Features:
If this this stomp box is fantastic at one job then the job is simply to WOW your audience with great and always wierd sounds that simply don't come from a guitar... or do they?? True bypass would be nice but I'm not going to go on and on about how I could improve this mad little thing. It does what it does. Great to see manufacturers including a power supply. On this score alone Digitech deserve a pat on the back.
Ease of Use:
Easy to use, easy to set up. A bit of practice makes it easy to play. The manual... well it's VERY small... but doesn''t need too be any bigger, everything is self explanatory really and what you don't know, you'll soon figure out cos you won't stop playing with it for hours. You'll drive everyone crazy with all of the off the wall sounds that you can create.
Value:
I paid £147 which is loads more than you lucky axe toting Americans will pay. Some people harp on and on about how this reissue isn't as good as the original, how it doesn't track as well...bla...bla...bla. It does track well but if it's pitch drifts over time you can recalibrate it by plugging in the power supply with the operating switch held down, let go when one of the lights starts to flash then toe and heel the pedal twice now press the switch again and your off and sounding perfect. SIMPLE AS THAT! and much cheaper than forking out £285 for an original cos you've heard some pikey knob say " IT"S NOT AS GOOD...blaaaaa!" It is a super little effect that wows everyone.
Sound:
The sound is very good considering how artificial the effect is. If you have a good sound this box will just reduce the gain a little tiny bit... you will only just notice. If you have a crap sound this pedal willl make it sound just the same... crap! A goood sound doesn't die when an effect pedal is engaged. Unless you have a guitar that cost you 30 pence and a toffee apple which you play through you dads stereo with a "my mum's" distortion box you'll be fine, absolutely fine. My set up is straight forward... here goes: American Jackson soloist from the custom shop (yummy) into a japanese boss rocker wah (bet you can't find one of these) into the whammy, then straight to a Mesa/Boogie dual rectifier ( I don't practice with any delays or reverbs I want to hear my mistakes not cover them up. The sound is sweeeeeeet and killer. True bypass would make me cry with pleasure... and that's the only thing I would change.
Overall:
Fantastic little box. Magic, sick cyborg sounds. If I broke mine I'd buy another straight away (or steal someone elses!!! ;o) ) Get one and make sure that you know how to recalibrate the expression pedal... so that you don't throw it out of the window when you think it's broken... cos it won't be.
