Quality:
Overall okay, considering price. Scroll is hand-carved, but not done very well. Minor finishing flaws.
Features:
Value is best feature. And use of beautiful woods. Sounds okay, but have to change strings. Mine is two years old and still solid.
Ease of Use:
You need to properly set up this instrument before playing. It does not come set up properly.
Value:
Good value. Worth price.
Sound:
Sounds better as it ages. Better strings make it sound much better.
Overall:
I can set up the instrument myself, so it was well worth the cost.

Quality:
This is a very well-made bass. It's sturdy, easily played with a minor setup, and its tuners are really smooth.
Features:
The flame maple back and sides are really beautfiul. The ebony fingerboard will hold up for years and years, and I'll probably be using this bass for the rest of my life. My only dislikes are the factory strings, which are a bit stiff, but they accept the bow well; and the action is super high. That affects the playability a bit.
Ease of Use:
This bass is easy to play right out of the box. With a little setup, like putting the bridge on and tensioning the strings, it played well.
Value:
This bass is worth every penny to a student who's just learning how to play upright or a professional in need of a backup bass. It's great in all applications, and I was astounded at its tone.
Sound:
It has a good sound pizzicato, and a fair arco sound. I don't think it would hold up to a carved upright when played arco, but it's good to learn on.
Overall:
The Palatino VB-009 is a great all-around bass with stunning looks and great sound. It is great for the beginner all the way up to the professional double bass player.
