Latin Percussion won the coveted Musikmesse International Press Award (MIPA) for percussion last year when the international panel cited the innovative LP Giovanni Compact Conga. And now again in 2004 LP’s taken away top honors with the LP One Shot Shaker Live. The new shaker, a result of a collaboration between LP and percussionist Daniel de los Reyes, incorporates the same silent "ghost shake" that distinguished the original One Shot Shaker, this time in an enhanced version that will cut through any live music environment.

The 2004 MIPA was conferred in a ceremony during the Musikmesse music trade fair on April 1. Attended by over three hundred representatives hailing from all points on the globe, the MIPAs have become truly the "Grammy Awards" of the musical instrument/pro audio industry. This year, the editorial staff from fifty-eighty magazines cast their respective ballots for products they consider most innovative, well made, and important for consumers. In the percussion category, the LP One Shot Shaker Live took top place.

The LP One Shot Shaker Live has a rectangular, anodized body, which gives it distinct tonal qualities and makes it extremely rugged. But the true beauty of the One Shot lies in the way it addresses what some players see as a flaw in traditional shakers: the telltale "after rumble" that follows the forward shake. To eliminate this, the One Shot Shaker incorporates a specially silenced "return chamber". With extraneous rattle silenced, the percussionist can concentrate on articulating clean, direct, and complex patterns, propelling the instrument with a natural forward motion, analogous to playing drumsticks. When playing the LP One Shot Shaker Live, percussionists report a new freedom to create strong, intricate patterns—and also increased capacity to rise above the din of noisy stages.
